Webme1 perform basic search engine optimisation tasks on behalf of our business clients
at no extra charge. It is impossible for us to make guarantees, but we do a lot of
basic SEO work on your web pages and expect all our sites and subdomains to be search
engine listed. It should be noted that there is no guarantee of listing or of a high
listing. If you have a service that is offering that which 100000 other people are
offering you may be on a search engine but many listings down. No matter how high
on the listings you are, there is no substitute for individual advertising off the
web where-ever possible and in particular highly recommend encouraging word of mouth
as much as possible.
The main difference between having a sub domain on Webme1 or a website separate to
Webme1 is search engine optimisation. We expect the special and costly efforts we
will be making in terms of SEO for www.webme1.com, to have a beneficial effect in
search engine listings for our sub domains. Hence not only is Webme1 a good budget
design option, a good way of getting on the web with no long term commitment and
a low cost hosting and maintenance package, but sub domains can 'ride on the coat
tails' of www.webme1.com in terms of search engine listings, as they form part of
the site and in addition are placed in the Webme1 directory.
Webme1 is aware that even if you are the first listing on the first page of Google,
this will not necessarily translate into business or even people clicking on your
site. What you should bear in mind is that search engines are just directories,
just like telephone listings. You may have a telephone number in there, may even
have paid more for a highlighted entry, but if people do not need you they will not
ring. However, should they be looking, if you do not have a website to find they
will contact someone who is there.
In line with Google Webmaster guidelines, we apply the following SEO practices on
behalf of our business clients at no extra charge:
- Analyse your existing web pages for SEO potential.
- Discuss initial key word choices. You have to consider what terms best describe what
you are advertising and what search terms people would be typing in to find you on
the Internet. So the first task is to ask yourself, if I wanted to find my web site
in a search engine and I did not know what my domain name was, what would I type? E.g.
if you are a cleaning company in Bristol, you might choose such search terms as:cleaner,
cleaning, Bristol cleaning service, Professional cleaning service, Bristol cleaners,
Industrial cleaning, Bristol office cleaning etc.
- We create targeted optimised META tags, title and keyword descriptions based on the
description of your company and utilising some of the key words. E.g. Your name
Bristol industrial and office cleaning company for professional cleaners in the south
west.
- We make sure that your site content actually includes those key words within it and
create a useful, information-rich site that clearly and accurately describes your
content based on the information you provide. The better the information, the better
the result.
- Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links.
- Add relevant anchors within the pages to clearly highlight important areas. You
can link to these anchors in any of your online advertising.
- Use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google
crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images. We use the "ALT" attribute to
include a few words of descriptive text within an image when we consider the information
of importance. The alt attribute is used to describe the contents of an image file.
It's important for several reasons:It provides Google with useful information about
the subject matter of the image in Google images. to help determine the best image
to return for a user's query. Many people e.g. for example, users with visual impairments,
or people using screen readers or who have low-bandwidth connections, may not be
able to see images on web pages. Descriptive alt text provides these users with important
information.
- Make sure that your <title> elements and ALT attributes are descriptive and accurate.
- Check for broken links.
- Use a text browser to examine the pages, because most search engine spiders see web
sites much as a text browser would and we make changes where appropriate.
- Add a robots.txt file so that bots/spiders can crawl the site with ease and regularly
update it.
- Submit your site to the major search engines and directories such as Google, Yahoo
and MSN if this does not happen naturally.
- Test your site to make sure that it appears correctly in top browsers.
- We reserve the right to alter our SEO practices at any time.
